From our first session, I felt inspired, renewed and above all schooled. It was a joy to have 10 weeks to develop a story from scratch with the pupils, but it would not have been possible without the ingenuinity of the staff & my colleagues. They understood far better than I, the energy & concentration levels of the kids & the marvellous tricks to bring them back into the room.

Such a positive creative experience for my daughter. She loved it and talked a lot throughout the process. She felt proud to be part of the cast.

It was so lovely to hear something that the children had written, created and recorded by themselves. It was a great length meaning that they all had a go and a part to play. You could really see that the children had used their ideas to write the script.

This was such an amazing experience for the kids. They got to engage in the storytelling process from the start of coming up with the idea, though to reading lines and making sound effects. They got to develop and use so many skills (reading, presenting) and they got to work on something so creative. My son is so proud of what they did.

The children were asked what they were proud of about their work on the project:
C - My friend A speaking because he is usually shy at speaking!Â
H - My ideas getting in the audio.Â
M - Recording all my lines and sharing.Â
R - The effort that everyone put in and when my mum and dad got to come and listen with us in the hall.Â
F - Everyone’s effort and teamwork and my voice because I didn’t really want to do it because I was shy but I felt proud of myself and happy when I did do it.
“
The children were also asked what the trickiest part was in making their audio drama:
R - recording my voice - it was a bit scary because it might go wrong and I sounded funny. But we could do our lines lots of different ways and I learnt lots of new words. Like nemesis and tundra.

One child, who was chosen to read out one of the main parts of the script, said ‘I really enjoyed that!’ She is a child who started Year 2 with very low confidence in reading and who is about a year behind in her reading ability. With support from two friends and her teacher she was able to confidently read all her lines and had a great time doing it!

Another child struggles with writing and to record his ideas. He has engaged well with the world-building of the project and is very immersed in the story line. He has been talking about the story outside of the sessions with Shooting Fish and it has influenced some of his ideas for his writing in English. He has found working in a group and sharing ideas difficult, but some of his ideas have been included in the overall story which has been really lovely. He had a great time voicing the dragon and making sound effects.

It has been lovely seeing the class growing in confidence in sharing their ideas and working as teams to produce shared ideas, especially through role play.
