S is 16 years old, she took part in our Gainsborough literacy Project. S joined the project later than others and was one of the younger members of the group.
Her confidence in writing has really developed. She has been home schooled for some time so had little ability as really, she had done very little academic work. She has severe anxiety and struggles with social interactions due to anxiety.
S read in stage directions in the rehearsal room in front of actors – she did brilliantly. S clearly felt safe and that enabled her to do something she didn’t think she could which was inspiring.
She attended plenty of rehearsal sessions even when she wasn’t due to be in and threw herself into the whole process. She particularly enjoyed working with the actors.
S said the things she enjoyed the most were writing a play and giving ideas.
She said it was a big thing for her to come to the theatre as she doesn’t like crowded spaces, so felt she achieved something.
S transformed over the course of the project, gaining in confidence and building new skills throughout.
